Even paper hearts can be hurt…

Book Arts Assignment: Make something out of a book!

This is a copy of Vampire Hunter D Vol. 1. My foster dog chewed up the dust cover and a few pages inside a few months ago but I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away because A) it’s vampire hunter d. I adore the artwork. And 2) i hadn’t yet bought myself a replacement copy.

Inspired by the whole vamiric story, I decided to turn it into a sculpture. I used a very light brown stain, and then a buncha red inks. Pardon the kitchen floor!

I’m having a hard time coming up with a title and I’d greatly appreciate any suggestions!!

Innervision – Book Arts Midterm

When I was trying to think of titles, my dad mentioned InnerVisions album by Stevie Wonder… I liked the name so much that I kept it as Innervision… I don’t like how I inked the title on the cover. I think it looked better without the title on it at all, but I guess it needs to have one. I also wrote a little blurb I made up on the front page. I don’t really think I like it.

The pages are two 20×30 sheets folded into a 16 page single sheet fold, then cut and glued together for an accurate number of pages.

The images are artsy photos of my friends that I took last spring that I wanted to incorporate into a project. You can see some of them in the gallery. I printed them out on heavy weight vellum, and “framed” them in the pages. When you’re looking at the book in the light and you turn the page, you can see the photo from the other side of the page as well. It makes me think of stained glass.

I studded the curve and parts of the spine to add some texture.

I’ve been thinking… Creatively.

When I have enough free time to to be creative on my own terms, I have a list of projects I’d like to work on. So here’s the thing… I might need audience participation. ha!

So, if I know you or almost know you and you exist around the same location as me (for #1 on my list) feel free to hit me up about these things:

1.
Okay so… I’ve decided on a costume I’m going to make for myself (hopefully within the next year)

I need ears. I need GOOD ears.

So since the old molds of my ears are long gone, I need to make new ones. But, it’s kind of hard to make a mold of your own ear. Though I don’t think it will be a mold for foam latex, as I don’t have a spare oven.
So this is how we’re going to do it:

I’m looking for a moldmaker who’d be willing to cast my ears for me.

OR

Someone that wants to learn about casting and moldmaking, so that I can show them stuff and they can do my ears for me. As a bonus, I can show you other nifty stuff, or whatever. I’m a little rusty, so I’ll have to brush up before we start, plus it’d be better to wait for nicer weather so we can do stuff outside because it’ll get messy and I don’t have a studio.

All in all, this probably won’t happen til spring, but I want to get a couple names before hand so that I know who to ask if they’re interested when the time comes.

Don’t be fooled. You won’t get paid. It’s just some fun stuff to do. And depending on what you wanna know and what I can show you, we might end up splitting the cost of some of the supplies. (The cost of doing my ears is all on me.)

Get in touch with me if you’re interested.

2.
I’ve decided that part of my costume will require a custom wig. I am going to be doing some wig design for myself. If anybody would like a specific style of wig (such as a character wig) I’d be happy to practice and try to hook you up with something awesome.

3.
Props! If anybody needs any props for any costumes or characters, let me know. I might be able to whip something up for you. I know how to work with a variety of materials, however I’m limited with metalworking and glass. Though it won’t stop me from trying.

4.
I’ve decided that I’m going to start sculpting again. I think I’m going to start with one of my WOW characters. If I accomplish that, and end up happy, I may offer to do commissions of things. Such as various game characters, virtual or real-life. Infact, I may skip doing my wow character and go straight to someone else’s character so that I have something new and refreshing.

Tall Chai Latte with a side of Poetry, please!

Okay I don’t drink coffee, but our latest project was to create a book out of “found” objects. Which means, I could make the book out of anything. So I saved my lunch bags for the week, and saved a cup from one of my chai’s, and whipped up a book monday evening as fast as I could.

The cup opens up after removing the.. holder thingy… And five scroll “pages” are rolled up inside, with their tops decorated with white crepe paper to look like latte. On each page is a poem about coffee which I found here (credit is of course given.) they are attached to coffee stirrers and fastened to the back of the cup.

I think it’s cute.
