my killer final

Not killer because it’s so good… Killer because it almost KILLED me trying to finish it.

I scrapped the deck of cards idea because I couldn’t come up with anything. Then one day I was listening to all of my Duran Duran music and POW! Two ideas!!

Here are the designs. They are both inspired by Duran Duran songs. One from their latest album, Red Carpet Massacre, and another from their Wedding Album. Both are approximately 8 or more color runs.

I will post the finished products later.

the sign of the scorpion

This is my next print, both planned and printed.

Originally this print was designed to be 14x14in square, however since my biggest screen was 14 inches at it’s widest, I couldn’t do it because of lack of room on the screen. At least not without breaking the image down into halves, thus increasing my already 10+ color runs by 50%.

Yeah. That’s too much. So I shrank it down to a 13×13 in piece. It’s still pretty big. It’s so big, that it was actually really difficult to print. (Of course I am doing the whole semester on my diningroom floor instead of on a table.)

The theme for this project was symbolism. I chose to use the current zodiac sign of Scorpio as my symbol of choice. I also used a photo of my friend, Nigel, whom you may or may not know, as my model since he is a Scorpio.

(I also have a list of my other friends who have volunteered themselves for my followup zodiac prints, which I now may or may not do due to the HUGE amount of freekin’ work this print took. Perhaps a different printmaking method would be preferred.)

Printing the zodiac

My next big printmaking project: the Zodiac.

‘m asking if any of my friends want their image used in my prints??

I’m currently looking for people to represent each zodiac sign. I will use their image in some way, most likely stylized, or illustrated or warped or whatever. I will not just be using the image. I will use your image as my model for the figure in my print. Just a headshot or bust shot will do. And it doesn’t have to be professional either. Just any image that might be cool, or you’re in a cool pose or… creative.. whatever. just not… like… smiling and waving. that’s boring. hahaha

It’s going to be first come first serve, unless… i really don’t wanna use somebody for some reason or another… and I can’t really see that happening. hahaha BUT if not all the positions have been filled and I don’t know anybody else that wants to do it, and your sign is taken, I’ll us you for the next sign available.. if you want… Even though it’s not really your sign. hahaha ^.^v

I am currently in need of photos of:

Gemini (22 May-22 June)
Leo (24 July-23 August)
Virgo (24 August-23 September)

The following signs have been taken:

Aries (21 March-20 April) Evan
Cancer (23 June-23 July) Renee
Taurus (21 April-21 May) Phil
Scorpio (24 October-22 November) Nigel
Capricorn (23 December-19 January) Dylan
Pisces (20 February-20 March) Joe
Libra (24 September-23 October) Steve
Sagittarius (23 November-22 December) Curtis
Aquarius (20 January-19 February) Christina

Lovestruck

Here is my design for my second silkscreen print of the season. It will have at least 8 runs to it, and I plan on printing on black paper. I will also be planning on using the photo emulsion method (which is required by my class), so that will be interesting.

First print of the semester

Here it is. My first silkscreen print for the fall. It’s a four stencil print. Fishbones! Here is also a 3 stencil version. I eliminated the orange background and printed on some fiberous bluegreen paper that resembled water.
